Double Brokerage Safety

Double brokerage happens when a load is re-brokered without your knowledge — payment risk lands on you. Sound Finance flags known problem brokers in our system; these field signals help you catch issues before pickup.

Six signals to watch

  • Rate con lists a different broker MC than who booked you.
  • You are told to check in under a name that is not on your dispatch sheet.
  • Paperwork arrives late, incomplete, or only by text photo.
  • Pickup numbers do not match what the shipper has on file.
  • The broker pushes you to haul before insurance or authority checks clear.
  • Payment terms change after you are loaded.

What to do before you roll

  • Run a free credit pull on the booking broker MC — we provide these for clients.
  • Call the shipper with your load number and confirm broker of record.
  • Refuse to move if identities do not match; document everything in writing.
  • Report suspected double brokerage to your factor so the file is on record.

If you already hauled

Gather rate con, BOL, texts, and check-in logs. Contact your account manager immediately — early documentation improves collection odds. Our team guides carriers through reporting and broker outreach when a load was re-brokered.
